We have always been actively keen to maintain the great country environment here at Ardmiddle Mains so we decided to join the Green Tourism Scheme. It just requires a little thought and recycling is not difficult for us Aberdonians!
As well as providing a book of handy hints for our guests to think about, we recycle and reuse so many things in the house and on the farm. Such as: the stones in the dry stone wall opposite our farmhouse were gathered from crumbling field dykes and old fence posts are cut up and used on the open fires in winter. I always put the washing out to dry and cut up old sheets to use as dusters.
Here at Ardmiddle Mains we try hard to keep our business as environmentally aware as possible.
Being part of Green Tourism we try to minimise waste and follow the well-known principle of reduce, reuse and recycle and actively encourage our visitors to do the same. We are fully aware of our energy consumption and are currently tackling ways to make our business more energy efficient.
Bruce and I actively support our community businesses and encourage our visitors to buy local produce and enjoy our local attractions too. As well as farming Bruce organises Turriff Show the largest 2 day agricultural show in Scotland. This is an important mid summer event for Turriff which attracts over 30,000 visitors and supports all aspects of our local business network. Prime livestock, talent and trade stands come together from all over the country to compete at this excellent show.
